Russell - Make A Donation

Restoration of Russell, the only surviving locomotive from the original Welsh Highland Railway has now reached a key stage.

The locomotive is now a rolling chassis. Wheels, frames, axleboxes, couplings, spring gear and brake gear are now finished and in place. But there's still much work to do. The next step is to overhaul the rods which make up the motion, and complete drawings for a new brake cylinder, to match that which the locomotive originally had in 1906.

Other big jobs are also ahead. The rods which make up the motion need overhauling, a job which could cost over ? 3,000. We need to build a new smokebox and overhaul tanks and cab.
